(My mom claims she hates when I tell stories about her (but always checks to be sure I got the story right)...)
So my mom calls me the other day to say that she just heard a great joke!
"Okay", I say hesitantly (I have been down this road before)
"It's about these cannibals..." she continues (long pause)
"...yeah?" not so sure I really want to encourage this.
"So these cannibals are eating a clown and one says to the other, 'does this seem funny to you?'"
...Now there are PEALS of laughter (Hers, not mine)
"Why aren't you laughing?" she sounds a bit hurt. "That is SOOOO funny"
"I don't quite get it." It really was not funny...but she would NOT stop laughing, which is entirely more entertaining than any joke. She always laugh harder at her own jokes than anyone else.
...cut to about two hours later. I am working and have a sudden epiphany. OH MY GOD!
I call my mom: "Mom! Do you realize that you told that joke WRONG?!"
"No, i didn't", she was certain.
Okay, mom, let me try tell it to you, "Two cannibals were eating a clown, and one says to the other, 'does this TASTE funny to you?'"
"Yeah, that was what I said! You didn't laugh. It was funny."
"No, mom you said 'does this SEEM funny to you' "
"Yeah?" (like I am the one who is nuts)
"No!!!!!! I said, 'TASTE!!!!' you said 'SEEMS' that was why I didn't laugh...it didn't make any sense"
Finally realizing what I was telling her, my mom just said in a mocking-hurt tone, "stop yelling at me" and started to laugh at herself all over again.
Don't even get me started on the joke she told me one Christmas, where the punchline was, "Santa Paws"...just saying only "Santa Paws" to her, to this day, will send her in spasms of laughter. And she even admitted that it was a kids' joke she had just heard on the radio, which she immediately called me on my cell phone just to tell me. (sigh)
She REALLY cracks herself up (which is pretty hysterically funny)!
